The
KU Pediatric Department enjoys a unique situation. While we have
our own dedicated outpatient clinics and inpatient units, we are
also an integral part of the larger KU
Medical Center. This allows us to tap into the resources only
found at a large tertiary care center. The University of Kansas
Medical Center encompasses the University of Kansas Hospital and
the 2,300 students of the schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Allied
Health.
Clinical services on the Medical Center complex include a full
service, tertiary care hospital, the 850,000 square foot University
of Kansas Hospital. The hospital serves a wide region including
Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Nebraska.
We are very proud of KU Hospital and of our part in it. During
the most recent survey of patient satisfaction, the hospital received
the following comments:
"All University of Kansas Hospital staff have
been terrific. I appreciate all that has been done for me in all
departments."
"How could I pick just one person? All of the doctors, nurses, aides and
other staff were excellent, caring people. I have nothing but praise for their
services."
"From the front door to receiving the best of care in the unit, KU Med has
a teamwork environment that is second to none. Everyone does it right!"
During the most recent survey period, all pediatric inpatient
units (NICU, PICU, and Unit 55) recieved patient satisfaction ratings
in the 99th percentile. We are proud of all the hard work put in
by our faculty, staff, and housestaff. We continue to strive to
place our patients' interests first.
The Hospital maintains fully-equipped operating rooms, sophisticated
clinical support laboratories, a full range of diagnostic and treatment
areas, an emergency department, and clinical outpatient facilities.
Other features include family-centered maternity care, same-day
surgery, and dedicated neurosurgical, trauma, cardiac, pediatric,
and adult intensive care units. The hospital is a designated trauma
center, which means rapid response and maximum treatment is provided
for critically injured patients.
Some of the services provided by KU Hospital include magnetic
resonance imaging, lithotripsy for both kidney stones and gallstones,
perinatology/neonatology for high-risk pregnancies, and kidney,
bone marrow, and liver transplantation. There are many more services
than can be listed here, and our clinicians and caregivers constantly
learn and innovate. For details, please see the KUMC
web site.
