Working Closely with the Media.

The media certainly will get involved. It is a goal of the program to recognize each child as an outstanding citizen. Newspapers, television and radio are begging for good topics to insert between the typical "bad" news found day after day. PRIDE is built to be that story. KU sends a media advisory before each presentation at a school. This is exciting for the winner, the residency, and the school. It gives attention to good kids, shows your department as a caring and involved medical partner in the community, and allows the school to shine.

You must also realize that the media will shape the future of the program because your community will be watching. Be proactive. If something seems controversial, take care of it before the reporters are at the school! Get a second opinion by having your committee meet regularly (at least quarterly) to discuss the growth of your program.

Keep in touch with us with any concerns or problems. Another PRIDE program or we already might have encountered a similar situation. The KU PRIDE Committee will meet quarterly to discuss the National PRIDE Program. Please keep us informed. We want to share your advances with all participating PRIDE programs.

We should share our strengths for the good of our nation’s children!
