Dear John:

I am writing to you about a new program sponsored by the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Kansas Medical Center, The PRIDE Program [Physicians Recognizing Individuals Demonstrating Excellence] is a program of the pediatric residents who, in partnership with area school teachers and principals, reward children in Kansas who have shown service to their school or community. Although it would be impossible to recognize every child, we select one each month to be recognized for his/her service and accomplishments. The winner will receive an award letter, presented to the child at a ceremony in the school, and one of the donated prizes. The child’s principal also will receive a certificate for the school.

Our hope is that the recognition each child receives will encourage that child to continue the good work and become a positive member of the community. As other children witness the positive reinforcement they will want to be winners also. Working hard, attaining goals, and being a positive member of the community will become contagious.

Your organization can be a part of this exciting and empowering program that rewards the future men and women of the Kansas City area. With your tax-deductible contribution, each selected child will receive an individualized letter of congratulations along with tickets to a sporting event, movie or other local attraction. The name of your business will be included in an accompanying letter to each winner and their school. We will advertise this program and contributing businesses in the Kansas City Star. A local television newscast will also keep Kansas City informed about the progress of PRIDE in Kansas City.

The PRIDE program was introduced at the National Meeting of the American Academy of Pediatrics in October 1999. Every pediatric residency program in the nation has been invited to take part in this endeavor. Your business can be a part of the growth of PRIDE in America! We hope that you are as excited as we are to recognize the greatness happening in our community of young people.

Sincerely,

Randy Goldstein, DO.

PRIDE is sponsored by the KU Pediatrics Department - a non-profit organization - of the University of Kansas Medical Center.
