Hero to Hero

A program designed to bring moments of joy to children suffering from chronic illnesses by partnering with local Heroes in our own community who want to help.

Children suffering from chronic illnesses are Heroes in the truest since of the word. We that are healthy take a lot for granted as we go about our daily lives. These children must work harder to find that moment of joy in their day when their bodies may be racked with pain, they may not be able to interact and play with their friends and in some cases their life span is limited.

“Hero to Hero” was designed to help bring those moments of joy to a child's life in order to make the journey a little more enjoyable. By partnering with Heroes in our own community and those organizations that work to make a difference in the life of an ill child, we at KU Pediatrics can support our patients and their families during an extremely difficult and stressful time. Stay tuned for updates!

Dahd Cannon Our first little 'Hero'

Five-year-old leukemia patient Dahd Cannon, from Great Bend, was the first participant in Hero to Hero, a program from KU Kids Healing Place.

Administered by The University of Kansas Physicians Pediatrics, the program is designed to bring moments of joy to children suffering from chronic illnesses.

For Dahd, that meant a ride in a fire truck Oct. 2 from Murphy Courtyard to a nearby fire station. Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department Captain John Peterson (left) and Manford Cannon, Dahd's hero, discussed the activities.
