Salute to Dr. Cho:

Dr. Cheng T. Cho, Professor of Pediatrics, has been a valued member of the University of Kansas Medical Center faculty for more than 30 years. He has served periodically as acting chair and vice chair for the Department of Pediatrics. He served as Chief of Section for Pediatric Infectious Diseases from 1972 to 2004.

Dr. Cho directed one of the most popular clinical rotations, the Pediatric Clerkship, and his pediatric infectious disease elective has been highly sought after by the residents. He has co-edited a book and has developed several educational materials. His talent in teaching has earned him many departmental and University awards, including Outstanding Pediatric Teaching awards, Honors in Education by Student Voice awards, the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the W.T. Kemper Fellowship for Teaching Excellence. For outstanding achievements in education, research and patient care, the KU Medical Alumni Association named Dr. Cho the 2004 Honorary Medical Alumnus.

For his many contributions, in 2005 the “Cheng Cho, M.D., PhD Award” was established by the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Kansas School of Medicine. This annual award recognizes a department member for excellence in pediatrics.

Dr. Cho has also received numerous honors from medical and bio-science communities in Taiwan, including the most prestigious award, “Contributions to Medicine”, by the Infectious Diseases Society of the Republic of China. He has frequently done visiting professorships and participated in infectious disease training programs in Taiwan. He has trained or participated in the training of over fifty infectious disease fellows in Taiwan, the United States, and Japan. Additionally, he serves as Chair of the Advisory Committee for the Clinical Research Division of the National Health Research Institutes in Taiwan.

Dr. Cho has contributed many letters, articles and chapters, and he serves as reviewer and on the editorial board of several publications. He is a member of several prestigious societies, including the American Pediatric Society, the Society for Pediatric Research, and the Infectious Diseases Society of America.
