Clerkship Goal

The overall goal of the clerkship is to provide an environment where the student can obtain a general knowledge of the diseases and issues encountered in pediatrics, both in sick and in well children.  The clerkship aims to help the student develop or refine skills in taking a history and performing a physical exam on a child, which differs from that of an adult.  The clerkship will teach the student how to evaluate sick and well children, and how those evaluations differ from adult evaluations.  It will expose the student to the practice of routine health maintenance, including but not limited to developmental assessments and vaccination schedules.  The student will learn the basic common illnesses in children and how to treat them.  Issues such as ethical dilemmas presented by caring for children and advocacy for children will be introduced.
