Steve Fowler, PhD

scfowler@ku.edu

Steve Fowler is Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Kansas and Life Span Institute Senior Scientist. Steve is also the co-director of the Biobehavioral Measurement Core (BMC). His primary research interests are in pharmacology, psychopharmacogenetics, behavioral neuroscience, and the development of behavioral measurement instruments. Specifically, his main basic research interests focus on the effects of anti-psychotic medications and their side-effects, and also to the mechanisms and neural control of rhythmic behaviors. Steve has also developed real-time, computer based measurement systems that have been used by many researchers all over the world. Finally, he has served as the principal investigator on numerous NIH and NSF grants.

Jonathan Pinkston, PhD

pinkston@ku.edu

Jon is the new manager for the BMC, joining the team in June 2005. He received his Ph.D. in the Experimental Analysis of Behavior from the University of Florida in 2005. Jon has research interests in learning, psychopharmacology, and behavioral neuroscience. Some of his main research interests are in studying the modulation of drug effects by learning and motivational processes and the long-term side effects associated with repeated stimulant administration. Jon is also interested in the development and application of new measurement devices and software.

Together, Fowler and Pinkston coordinate the activities of this facility with the needs of investigators.
