The Cancer Information Service is a national resource for information and education about cancer and a leader in translating cancer information into terms that the public can easily understand. The CIS is a program of the National Cancer Institute, the Nations’ lead agency for cancer research.

Don’t Choke on Smoke

A strong message of smoking prevention is presented to local 4th graders by the University of Kansas’ medical, nursing, and allied health students. It is an interactive, one-hour program that consists a presentation of smoking facts, role-playing, and games. The Kansas Masonic Cancer Research Institute, the Kansas Masonic Foundation, and the American Cancer Society support the program. For more information, contact Rebecca Lang (913) 588-4786.

The American Indian Heartland Cancer Network

The American Indian Heartland Cancer Network is a new program for American Indian women. This program assists the medically underserved Native American population residing in the urban and reservation areas by reducing disparity through awareness, education, advocacy, and referrals, while also increasing access to services by partnering with culturally sensitive organizations.  Contact the Outreach Coordinator, Virginia Eaves, at (913) 588-4739 for information.
