Personal Computing

Personal computing includes desktop, laptop, and tablet PCs, as well as handheld technology.

Strategic directions

1. Implement the Microsoft desktop tools that interoperate with our enhanced Microsoft server environment.
2. Move towards a Windows Mobile (as opposed to Palm) handheld platform standard (Windows Mobile has been variously called “Windows CE” and “PocketPC”).
3. Improve central management of personal productivity device security and select other functionality.
4. Implement thin client technology selectively to reduce cost and improve management and standardization.

Major Objectives (an objective is ongoing if no target deadline is included)

• PC-5: Implement LANDesk for Pc remote management by December 2008. (MF)
• PC-7: Implement the Change Control module in Service Center by December 2008. (MF)
