Network Connectivity
Strategic directions
- Provide a stable, secure, always available, ubiquitous network with ample bandwidth and both wired and wireless connectivity to support KUMC’s educational, clinical, and research missions.
Major Objectives (an objective is ongoing if no target deadline is included)
- NC-1: Upgrade all existing Category 3 network cable to Category 6 by December 31 2009. (MF)
- NC-3: Upgrade our network core to 10 gigabits per second by December 2008. (MF)
- NC-4: Implement the consultant’s network edge design by December 2008. (MF)
- NC-5: Implement redundant “distribution layer” switching by December 2008. (MF)
- NC-6: Implement Network Node Validation by July 2009. (MF)
- NC-7: Implement a formal Network Operations Center by June 2009. (MF)
- NC-8: Implement a comprehensive network management and monitoring tool suite by June 2009. (MF)
- NC-9: Complete our initial campus-wide wireless implementation by March 31 2008. (MF)
- NC-11: Begin a phased upgrade of the wireless network to the next-generation technology (probably 802.11n) beginning July 1 2009 or when the technology has matured (whichever comes later). (MF)
- NC-12: Implement complete redundancy of our Internet connectivity including provider redundancy to assure very high availability of Internet access by the end of summer 2008. (MF)

Implement wireless access to GoPrint for printing only in the Library, Orr-Major, and Student Center by June 2008. (MF)
