Student Clerkships

Welcome Message

Welcome to the Department of Internal Medicine! We take pride in our tradition of excellence in clinical education and patient care, and we look forward to working with you. Whether you are a third year medical student just beginning your clerkships, or a fourth year student returning for a subinternship or elective, we are pleased to have you join us. We hope that many of you will choose to pursue a career in internal medicine, but even if you choose another specialty, you will find that your experience during your medicine clerkships will provide you with invaluable medical knowledge and patient care skills.

As a student enrolled in a medicine clerkship, you are welcome to attend any of an array of weekly conferences held within the department, and you will find a schedule here on the website. In particular, we strongly encourage you to attend our Morning Report conference, which occurs at 8 am in the Greenberger conference room on every day but Wednesday, when we have Grand Rounds in the Sudler auditorium. At Morning Report, you will have the opportunity to learn from case presentations as you observe the residents develop a differential diagnosis and discuss treatment options with expert faculty members. We also encourage you to attend our noon resident conference series, in which we cover a range of topics designed to prepare you for your shelf exam, and to prepare our residents for the internal medicine boards. Most importantly, though, we want you to become an integral member of your team of faculty and residents, and to learn from your patients, read about them, and ask questions freely. We consider it our responsibility to inspire you to be a life-long learner, and we look forward to being a part of your development as a physician.
