A Few Resident Bios...

M AllenMarci Allen:  I grew up in Michigan, went to college outside of Chicago, then moved to this area when I got married.  I graduated from the osteopathic medical school here in Kansas City and had several reasons for wanting to come to KU for residency: Approachable attendings who are excited to teach, camaraderie between residents, and program leaders who are willing to listen and make changes are just a few reasons.  I hope to specialize in Heme/Onc.  Thankfully, KU has top notch training for anyone wanting to be a hospitalist or to subspecialize, with many fellowship programs available right here!   The Kansas City community is great place with lots to do.  Perhaps the biggest factor is finding a place where you feel at home.  Now I know I’ll be a Jayhawk at heart no matter where I end up some day!

V JainVishal Jain: I grew up in a small town in India. After completing med school in India, it was time to pursue ‘ The American Dream’. The journey started with a short stint in exploring the world of basic science research in the field of cellular immunology and cancer biology. Confused mind brought me to KU where I initially joined Family Medicine program. After heading few miles, decided that I truly belong to Internal (read eternal) Medicine. The choice was easy…………Go Jayhawks ! I am enjoying my ride so far…thanks to the excellent navigators (program directors, attendings and chiefs) and wonderful companions (all the residents). And above all, Kansas City is a great and fun place to live and work.

L FryeLaura Frye: is a Kansas native, though if asked will likely claim New York City as her true home. She has been extensively involved in issues related to reproductive health and HIV and has held leadership positions within the only WHO recognized medical student organization, the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations, as well as within the American Medical Student Association (AMSA). Prior to beginning her residency training, Laura spent one year as the Global AIDS Fellow for AMSA, representing US medical students and residents on Capital Hill as well as leading the organization’s grassroots organizing and educational programming within the US an abroad. Laura plans to pursue a career in cardiology and plans to continue her work in broad solutions to access to prevention, treatment, and care in underdeveloped countries upon completing her medical training.

J BeasleyJeff Beasley: A true southern gentleman, hailing from the great state of Mississippi. I came to the heartland for medical school and have never looked back. KU has definitely been a great choice for my education and making some of the best friends of my life. Wherever my life as a hospitalist takes me, I know I will be prepared.

M SanchezMayra E. Sanchez: I’m a California girl turned Jayhawk. I never thought I would fall in love with this Sunflower state, but here I am almost 8 years later – med school, and residency! KU Med has been the ideal place for me for so many reasons. I have been able to pursue my passion for working with underserved communities and the expanding Latino population with an excellent education in the midst of wonderful, supportive mentors and colleagues/friends. Being in the Heartland of the US, I have easily visited family and friends on both coasts, and was able to buy a little place of my own – an unexpected achievable goal here in KS. As for my future, my training has prepared me for most anything, and I hope that this avid salsa dancer will achieve a Fellowship position in Palliative Care. I am incredibly excited about the upcoming Chief year, and look forward to the opportunity to serve patients and the IM residents. If you are thinking of applying and have questions, please feel free to contact me – msanchez@kumc.edu. Good luck , and welcome to KU!

D RobineDominic Robine: In high school I remember an assignment where we were told to write letters to ourselves in the future. Where would I be? What would I be doing? Never did I expect that many of my dreams would come to fruition. I’m married to the love of my life. I have a baby boy who reminds me of Christmas morning every time I see him. I’m practicing medicine at a premier teaching institution. What a ride thus far! The future continues to look bright. I look forward to serving as a Chief Resident and ultimately practicing cardiology. KU Med has afforded me opportunities to succeed in both my career and life. I’m incredibly proud of our very dynamic program. The faculty serve as our mentors, teachers, councilors, and friends, and our ancillary staff is beyond helpful. What made KU Med “click” for me was the resident camaraderie. I can say, without a doubt, that KU med has changed my life for the better and I’m proud to be a part of this team!
