Dr. Porter-Williamson, Assistant Professor of Medicine and Medical Director for Palliative Care services at the University of Kansas, was appointed Program Director July 1, 2008. In anticipation of ACGME accreditation, the fellowship program at this time transitioned to the University of Kansas GME office from Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care, the founding home of the fellowship. Since the program’s inception in 2005, the faculty at the University and at Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care have partnered closely in the vision and operation of the program. Dr. Christian Sinclair, the former program director, continues to function as the Associate Program Director and lead physician for the fellowship at Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care.
Dr. Porter-Williamson has been a member of the faculty at the University of Kansas Medical Center since July 2003, after completion of her Palliative Medicine fellowship training at San Diego Hospice and Palliative Care. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. She has extensive expertise in end-of-life care, operating a consultation service which currently sees approximately 550 patients per year.
