Palliative Medicine Fellowship Rotations

Elective

Description:
The fellowship program has access to many elective opportunities to individualize the educational curriculum to his or her needs.  We have established relationships with many clinicians at the various institutions in support of the palliative care fellowship and have the ability to customize an elective to suit their goals.  Interventional pain, behavioral pediatrics, integrative medicine, and oncology inpatient service are some of the clinically based electives available at KU Medical Center.  All institutional settings may provide elective rotations which may include a focused research rotation, a scholarly initiative rotation, a quality improvement rotation, and administrative rotation, or hospice/palliative care program development.

Examples of electives:

  1. 2-4 week rotation with Interventional Pain Management, where the fellow is expected to attend the Interventional Pain Clinic and as well do inpatient Interventional Pain Management consultation under the supervision of our partnering Interventional Pain faculty at KU Medical Center.
  2. 2-4 week rotation on the inpatient oncology service at KU Medical Center.  The fellow contributes as a palliative care perspective to the inpatient rounding team while also learning about the practical integration of palliative care into oncology practice.
