David C. Bodensteiner, M.D.
Dr. Bodensteiner is currently Professor of Medicine and he is board certified in hematology and has spent over two decades working with medical students and residents. He has extensive experience in both benign and malignant hematology disorders, and has special expertise in coagulation disorders.

Delva Deauna-Limayo, M.D.
Dr. Deauna-Limayo is Associate Professor of Medicine. She is board certified in Hematology and Oncology. Her major focus is in lymphoma, myeloma and transplants. She is the chairman of the Education Committee of the Cancer Program and the Qaulity Assurance Leader of the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Program.

Gary C. Doolittle, M.D.
Dr. Doolittle is the Medical Director of TeleMedicine Services here at the University and Associate Professor of Medicine. He is board certified in hematology and oncology as well as board certified in hospice and palliative care. Dr. Doolittle's main focus is teleoncology and providing oncologic expertise via ITV to outreach areas in the state. He has ongoing research in this area with hospice care and care for children in the school setting.

Carol J. Fabian, M.D.
Dr. Fabian is currently Professor of Medicine and Director of the Breast Cancer Prevention Center. She is board certified in oncology and has spent 20+ years involved in breast cancer research, i.e. chemoprevention for women at high risk for breast cancer, estrogen receptor modulators, and genetic and risk assessment. Dr. Fabian is known nationally and internationally for her expertise in breast cancer and has received numerous honors over the years, including the "Top Cancer Specialists for Women" Good Housekeeping, March 1998.

Allan R. Fleming, M.D.
Dr. Fleming, Assistant Professor, has established himself as one of the finest teaching physicians since joining the faculty in 2002. Board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology, he currently serves as the oncology hospitalist and medical director of the hematology/oncology unit at the University of Kansas Hospital. Dr. Fleming's commitment to quality patient care is reflected by his ranking as the hospital's top-rated physician in patient satisfaction in fiscal year 2006. In addition, Dr. Fleming demonstrates his commitment to quality medical education in the numerous awards he has received including the Student Voice Award in 2002-2003, 2004-2005 and 2005-2006; Rainbow Award Finalist 2003-2004; the Bohan Teaching Professorship in Excellence in Teaching in 2005; and Outstanding House Staff Teaching Award 2005-2006.

Siddhartha Ganguly, M.D., F.A.C.P.
Dr. Ganguly joined the faculty as Assistant Professor in 2003. He completed a fellowship in hematology with one year dedicated to bone marrow transplantation. His major area of interest is in Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML), clinical research and protocol development, especially in stem cell transplant for high risk lymphoma and Hodgkin's disease. Dr. Ganguly received the Outstanding House Staff Teaching Award for 2004-2005 as well as the Max Allen Clinical Scholar Award, also in 2004.

Chung-Tsen Hsueh, MD, PhD, FACP
Dr. Hsueh (pronounced as "Shay"), a graduate of Taipei Medical University and State University of New York at Buffalo, has completed Medical Oncology/Hematology fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He has received Clinical Scholars Training Fellowship from Sloan-Kettering Institute, Research Fellowship in Translational Cancer Research from American Association for Cancer Research-Amgen Inc, and Merit Award from American Society of Clinical Oncology. He is board certified in Medical Oncology with special interests in new drug development, head and neck cancer and gastrointestinal malignancy. Dr. Hsueh joined the division as Associate Professor in 2004. He has published in Biochemical Pharmacology, Clinical Cancer Research, and Annals of Surgical Oncology. He is currently a principal investigator and co-investigator of several funded phase I and pharmacogenomic studies.

Chao H. Huang, M.D.
Dr. Huang, Assistant Professor, is faculty member of both the University of Kansas Medical Center and the Kansas City Veterans Administration Medical Center (KCVAMC) since 2004. Dr. Huang completed his fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at Temple University and Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, PA. He is board certified in internal medicine, hematology and medical oncology. His clinical practice and research interests are dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer and head and neck cancer. Dr. Huang received the KCVAMC's Special Contribution Award in Teaching in 2006.

Karen Kelly, M.D.
Dr. Kelly, Professor of Medicine, was named Deputy Director of the University of Kansas Cancer Center and one of three Frank B. Tyler Chairs in Cancer Research in October 2006. Dr. Kelly, a Kansas native, is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in lung cancer and returned to the University of Kansas Medical Center after serving most recently as director of the Clinical Thoracic Oncology Program at the University of Colorado Cancer Center.

Brian Petroff, D.V.M., Ph.D.
Dr. Petroff joined the faculty as Assistant Professor in 2004. Since womens cancers (i.e. breast and ovarian cancer) and infertility share a number of suspected disease pathways and risk factors, his laboratory research focuses on the prevention of these conditions through the characterization of promising drug targets in human and animal chemoprevention trials. Major research efforts include alleviation of the loss of fertility with age and in polluted environments, the development of animal models of women at high risk for breast and ovarian cancer and the use of proteomic, RNA and laser capture microdissection technologies to assess early markers of risk for breast and ovarian cancer. He is also laboratory scientific director in the Breast Cancer Prevention Center, assisting with the testing of promising chemoprevention drugs for breast and ovarian cancer in human clinical trials.

Barry S. Skikne, M.D.
Dr. Skikne is Professor of Medicine and Director of the Bone Marrow Transplant Program. He is board certified in hematology. Dr. Skikne has extensive experience in bone marrow transplant in all areas including autologous, allogeneic and matched unrelated donor transplants. He has also an extensive expertise in iron disorders. Dr. Skikne has received teaching honors: Student Voice, Honors in Education, School of Medicine, University of Kansas 1990-1991; and Outstanding Teacher Award from the Department of Medicine House Staff, University of Kansas Medical Center 1987-1988.

Sarah A. Taylor, M.D.
Dr. Taylor, Professor of Medicine, was appointed Program Director July 1, 1999. At that time the Hematology and Oncology programs were also officially combined into one Hematology/Oncology Fellowship program.

Dr. Taylor has been a member of the faculty at the University of Kansas Medical Center since July 1980. She is board certified in internal medicine, medical oncology and hospice and palliative medicine. She has extensive expertise in end-of-life care. She also has an extensive background in research with phase I, II and III clinical trials sponsored by the National Cancer Institute as well as in the pharmaceutical arena. She has served on the FDA Oncology Drug Advisory Committee. Her clinical interests include the diagnosis and treatment of brain tumors and breast cancer.

Dr. Taylor has received numerous awards for teaching and compassionate patient care, which include Student Voice Outstanding Teacher Award 1994-1995; Mother Theresa Award for Outstanding Patient Care 1989; VA Employee of the Year 1996; the Barb Johnson Education Award from the KC Regional Home Care Association in 2002; and named as Top Doctor at the University of Kansas Hospital in 2006.

Peter Van Veldhuizen, M.D.
Dr. Van Veldhuizen, Associate Professor, has been part of the faculty at both the Kansas City Veterans Administration Medical Center (KCVAMC) and the University of Kansas Medical Center since 1992. Currently he is the Chief of the Hematology/Oncology Service at the KCVAMC. Dr. Van Veldhuizen is board certified in both hematology and medical oncology and is the local director and supervisor for the training program at the KCVAMC. His major area of interest is in GU malignancies(prostate, kidney, testicular, and bladder cancer). His research interest include clinical trial development and prostate cancer prevention.

Stephen K. Williamson, M.D., F.A.C.P.
Dr. Williamson, Professor of Medicine, has been a member of the faculty since 1986. He currently serves as Division Director for the Department of Internal Medicine's Division of Hematology/Oncology and Medical Director for the KU Cancer Center. The division also includes active bone marrow and stem cell transplant programs along with a breast cancer prevention center. Dr. Williamson is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology and has extensive clinical trials expertise in gastrointestinal malignancies, lung cancer and head and neck cancer. He has also received accolades for his teaching efforts: Excellence in Research Award, Veterans Affairs, KC 1996; Mother Theresa Award for Outstanding Patient Care 1997; and Top Doctor at the University of Kansas Hospital in 2005.
