Eleven divisions comprise the Department of Internal Medicine. View links below for more information on each division's services, faculty and contact information:
Allergy/Clinical Immunology/Rheumatology
The Division specializes in diagnostic techniques such as skin and laboratory
testing for allergic reactions to common environmental substances
(antigens). Aspiration and therapeutic injections for swollen and
painful joints is commonly performed. High resolution imagining of
joints including ultrasonography is available when indicated. New
biologic therapies are available for diseases such as RA, SLE, asthma,

Center for Outcomes Research & Education (CORE)
This multi-disciplinary research center's work promotes the health of the public by generating the knowledge required to prevent disease and its consequences. Through patient-oriented research, the CORE evaluates the application of laboratory discoveries as well as the adoption of best practices in clinical settings and populations.
Clinical Pharmacology
The division specializes in the treatment and prevention of Atherosclerosis,
the leading cause of heart disease. We treat most risk factors, in
particular cholesterol, which can cause cardiovascular disease. For
the past 10 years our clinic has been the only center in Kansas and
Missouri to perform LDL-apheresis, a procedure which removes cholesterol
by up to 80% in 1-2 hours. Our division is also involved in clinical
studies of new investigational medications for the treatment and prevention
of cardiovascular disease.
Dermatology
Dedicated to excellence in patient care, resident training and investigative
research for diverse conditions affecting the skin, including melanoma
and non-melanoma skin cancer, cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, psoriasis,
and aging.

Nephrology and Hypertension
The Division of Nephrology & Hypertension at KUMC is known for its
excellent clinical program and world-class translational and basic
research activities. Here, physician-scientists, basic scientists,
and clinicians have distinguished themselves among their peers for
work in polycystic kidney disease, bone and mineral metabolism, kidney
development, and transplantation. Our clinical program is equally
strong, with master clinicians and a number of young clinical nephrologists
who are deeply committed to patient care. That commitment is demonstrated
in the high level of patient outcomes that the transplant program
has delivered, in the inpatient consult service that provides state-of-the-art
hemodialysis therapies, and in the outpatient hemodialysis and home
dialysis programs. A total of ten physicians participate in the clinical,
research and educational initiatives in this division.
