Message from Our Director

DodaniWelcome to the Center for Outcomes Research & Education. The CORE aims to improve healthcare, using healthcare outcomes research and by teaching and mentoring clinicians. The CORE works closely with other health services researchers within the institute as well as outside within the region in order to help provide scientific clinical outcome research expertise.

CORE provides the scientific and clinical research infrastructure necessary to develop and maintain national and international voluntary databases for a wide range of health outcomes.

CORE is a dynamic team that efficiently handles data processing, management, and analysis. Based on this data, we design, produce and distribute periodic reports to the Department of Internal Medicine Faculty and others. CORE also provides each medical/scientific advisory board with technical and editorial support in the preparation of scientific abstracts, presentations, and manuscripts.

The CORE is one of the new centers and slowly is establishing itself as a leader in health outcomes assessment, measurement and applications to improve patient care and influence policy. CORE bridges clinical activity and outcomes research at department as well as at the School of Medicine level. Collaborations in clinical research with major hospitals in the greater Metropolitan Kansas City area as well as ethnic minority communities on health outcomes and effectiveness evaluates how various treatment strategies affect results important to patients.

CORE is growing and will soon be staffed with employees whose combined expertise will allow for the advancement of multiple goals in research, hospital and community education. With the help of several schools within KUMC and wonderful teams, CORE has staff dedicated to research operations, scientific advancement, data management, and statistics.  The four primary goals of the CORE are,

  • To provide leadership to University of Kansas Medical Center and University of Kansas Hospital (KUH) for generating and interpreting outcomes data
  • To demonstrate improvements in the quality and cost-effectiveness of care at KUH
  • To facilitate clinical outcomes/effectiveness research by Department of Internal Medicine investigators and others
  • To conduct nationally visible, externally-funded outcomes/effectiveness research

Our website is still under development. Please feel free to provide us with your comments on how we can improve and work together towards common goals.

Thank you,
