Directions: Review handouts, class notes, assigned readings and/or any other resources you feel are needed and answer the following questions:
Elizabeth is a 69 year old widow who lives in her own home. She has 3 grown children who live in the area and sees them on a regular basis. She is active in her church, participates regularly in a card club and plays cribbage once a month at the community center. She attends plays and concerts regularly with a close friend. Her last check-up was 6 years ago -- "Im feeling real good and I dont get sick very often". She does have her blood pressure checked once a month at her church and she gets her flu shot at a local center each fall.
1. Describe 5 areas you would screen for in your history/review of systems and the reasons you would include these screenings.
2. What changes related to aging would you look for when doing your physical assessment? Describe at least 5 changes and how you would assess for them.
3. What lab and other diagnostic or screening tests would you want to do? Discuss how you would explain the rationale for doing them with Elizabeth?
4. You have Elizabeth come back in 2 weeks to review the results of her tests. Her total cholesterol is 225. All other tests have come back normal. What, if anything, do you do regarding her cholesterol? Give your reasons.
5. What other anticipatory guidance/teaching will you do for her at this visit? When will you have her return and what follow-up will you do at that time? Give you rationale.
