NRSG 752 Methodology:

The didactic component consists of readings, on-line discussions, individual and group activities, projects, and on-line presentations. These activities are designed to assist students to develop their knowledge base related to organizations, community, and societal systems.

This course is divided into 7 units. Each unit has reading assignments and a module overview with learning activities. Theory content will be more intense during the first two modules and clinical activity more intense during the last modules.

General directions for completing each module include:

Individual Activity-Review all required readings and all module discussion questions. Each individual completes all module questions in rough form for his/her own benefit. Group leader will assign specific discussion questions the individual is to summarize at the WebBoard Module Category.

Group Activity-The group leader for each week is responsible for initiating discussions, facilitating discussions, and completing the week with a brief summary. Group leader will assign each group member the discussion questions for each assignment to be shared in writing, via the Web Board.

As a group member, submit discussion comments to the group and review responses received from group members. Generate questions/comments to their responses. Use the group as a sounding board for project activities. Summarize your assigned questions at the WebBoard.

Project Groups:

As you know from previous course work, interacting with your colleagues is one of the best parts of graduate education. Four to five student groups will be set up. Usually the Web Board, e-mail or phone conferences work best for students although in-person group meetings are fine if distance will allow it. Our Discussion Site will be used for weekly sharing from the groups and weekly updates from the instructor.

Group Guidelines:

  1. Group leaders will be assigned for all Modules except Module III
  2. Group leaders will be responsible for leading group activities for the module as summarized above.

NRSG 752 Evaluation:

  1. Written "concept in action paper" on concept with relevance to complex client assessment project or societal topic. 30% (Includes posting of outline and references on Threaded Discussion Group with response to questions)
  2. Written complex client assessment project. Theory and research based assessment, diagnosis, and proposed intervention strategies to enhance, maintain or restore balance of selected complex client systems. ( Includes posting of outline and references on Threaded Discussion Group with response to questions) 30%
  3. Completion of group class participation activities (detailed in course outline). 25%
  4. Individual participation in Threaded Discussion Group.15%

NRSG 752 Grading:

90-100 A
80-89 B
70-79 C
60-69 D

NRSG 753 Methodology:

The clinical practice consists of participant-observation, observation, interview and documentation of assessment of a complex client system (organization, community or cultural group). Requirement is four (4) clock hours per week (60 hours total). Students plan, carry out, and evaluate their assessment and propose therapeutic interventions using a theoretical frame. Small group clinical conferences will be used to discuss application of theory to students' clinical practice.

NRSG 753 Evaluation:

Individual clinical log reflecting weekly theory application activities including literature search, work on assessment plan and analysis, and contacts/visits with complex clients. E-mail clinical log to the instructor. Forty-five hours need to be documented in theory-based work with a complex client. Time spent completing student group work related to the assessment project can be included. 80%

Participation with group and instructor in clinical related threaded discussions 20%
