• Primary: Most Common (90%)

  • Chronic autoimmune thyroiditis 60%
    • Females > Males
    • Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (with goiter) or
    • Atrophic hypothroidism
    • 2 - 6/1000 (new); 20 - 40/1000 (established)
  • 20 to treatment for hyperthroidism 30 %
  • Congenital hypothroidism : 1:4000 births
    • Major preventable cause of MR in world
