Services:
The Calkins Educational Resource Center (ERC) is located on the ground
level of Orr-Major Hall. The Instructional Technology Center (ITC) is an extension of the
Educational Resource Center. Although the ITC itself is in Wahl Hall West G010,
primary access is through the ERC. For information in the ERC, call 588-7343. For
information in the ITC, call 588-7155.
Located throughout the ITC and ERC are 90+ Pentium computers and a few
Macintosh. Features of these computers are:
- Productivity software which include Office 97 Suite, WordPerfect 7.0 and
statistical software
- All educational programs which faculty have chosen to make available for
curriculum support
- Internet services (via Netscape) and electronic mail (via GroupWise)
- Networked printer capabilities
- Scanners attached to specific computers
The ITC/ERC is also responsible for 14 Pentium Computers on the second
floor study carrels of ORR-Major. All productivity applications and educational programs
that are available on all computers in the ITC/ERC are available on these
computers. While there is no printer in that area, printing can be directed to the ITC/ERC
printers that are available during open hours.
The ERC resources include:
- the audiovisual collections of the Archie R. Dykes Library which include
all locally produced and commercial materials that support the medical, nursing, and
allied health curricula
- Netscape/Remote Access software checkout
- Limited equipment checkout
- HP Scanner
- Carrels which house either a PC or equipment necessary to view VHS
videocassettes or slide-tape programs
- Two rooms are available for group viewing and study
- Copier for student use.
The ITC resources include:
- 4 Small rooms for group study (up to 4 students at a time)
- Two computer training rooms (available for scheduling through
Instructional Support)
- HP Scanner
- 3 Computers equipped with Laser Disk/Touchscreen technology
The ITC/ERC is open the following hours:
Monday Thursday 8:00am - 11:00pm
Friday 8:00am - 8:00pm
Saturday 9:00am - 6:00pm
Sunday 1:00pm 11:00pm
(Summer, holiday, and exam hours vary)
Policies:
The ITC/ERC is open for use to all KUMC Staff and Students. By using one of these
computers it is assumed that the Staff/Student has agreed to the following policies.
Failure to adhere to the policies may result in the revocation of the Student/Staff
ability to use the facilities.
- All persons utilizing the ITC/ERC must be able to present upon request a
valid KUMC ID. If a KUMC ID is not presented, the person shall be asked to leave the
ITC/ERC.
- The use of equipment in the ITC/ERC for transmission of information
disparaging to others based on race, origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability,
religion, or political belief is not permitted under any circumstances. Likewise, ITC/ERC
equipment cannot be used to solicit or proselytize others for commercial ventures,
religious or political causes or outside organizations, or for personal gain. This use is
not limited to hardware but includes all Web-based activity and electronic mail. Any
person caught using the computers to disseminate disparaging information will lose all
rights to use the ITC/ERC.
- Checkout privileges of materials housed in the ERC require a valid KUMC
Student or Staff ID. By the act of checking out materials, the patron assumes
responsibility of the materials that include replacement cost if the materials are
damaged.
- To ensure adherence to software licensing laws, only authorized staff
shall be allowed to install software on computers that are available for student use.
- All material downloaded or copied electronically must adhere to existing
copyright laws. Any person failing to adhere to existing copyright laws could lose his/her
right to use the facilities.
- To prevent accidental destruction of the electronic equipment, no food or
drink is allowed in the ITC/ERC. There will be a table placed in the ITC and the ERC for
students to place such items.
- All information that students wish to save must be saved on some external
storage media. The ITC/ERC is not responsible for any items stored on the computer hard
drives since the hard drives are erased daily.
- A student is responsible for the cost of all materials that they submit
to the printers. This includes materials printed in error.
- To ensure the availability of computers to all students as an academic
resource, the Student Governing Council has endorsed a policy which states that no games
will be installed on the computers in the ITC/ERC. Any installation of games on ITC
hardware could result is loss of the individuals right to use the facilities.

Any misuse of ITC resources in the creation of these web pages could result in the loss of
the individuals right to use the facilities.
- All Internet material viewed and created in the ITC must adhere to the
