The time you spend per week on-line for class and preparing for class is going to vary by the student and by the course.  Keep in mind that you need to allow the time you would normally spend to study, plus the time you normally would have spent in the classroom.  For example, a common guideline is that 1 credit hour of coursework is often equal to approximately 3 hours per week of preparation time.  A 3-credit hour course then would take approximately 9 hours a week outside of the classroom.   Remember to add the minimum of 3 hours per week you would normally have spent in the classroom on to the 9 hours of preparation time ( a total minimum time invested of 12 hours per week).  Again, the time required varies by the student and the course.   Some students will spend more time on particular courses; some will spend less.   In the past, students felt that they spend a great deal of time on a course, but may not have included the time they would have normally spent in the classroom as part of the time they spend at home working on the course.  Web-based courses provide the ultimate in scheduling flexibility and convenience, but they still give you the same high-quality education.
