IAMI Fellowship Program


Inspired by the opportunity to grow educational and entrepreneurial capacity, the Institute for Advancing Medical Innovation (IAMI) at KU was established upon the belief that ideas are translated to innovation to improve health. The IAMI Fellowship Program focuses on practice-based training and networking of the next generation of innovators who will advance medical innovations ranging from new drugs, medical devices, and drug–medical device combinations.

IAMI Fellowship Objectives

Through the fellowship curriculum and industry mentoring, IAMI Fellows will acquire the skill sets to successfully (1) work in multidisciplinary environments and (2) commercialize life science technologies. The IAMI Fellowship Program will strive to create an entrepreneurial support system and instill in Fellows a sense of urgency to drive research toward outcomes that can be translated out from the university setting and commercialized.

Benefits

The IAMI Fellowship Program utilizes a directed case study approach in which all work and training centers around developing the commercial potential of the Fellow’s research project. Fellows will earn specific skills sets that will increase their chances of success in translation life science technologies ranging from medical devices and diagnostics to pharmaceuticals. New IAMI Fellows will join a group of networked IAMI Fellowship Alumni and IAMI Industry Mentors, all with common interest in advancing commercialization of medical innovations.

Profile of an IAMI Graduate Student Fellow

IAMI Fellows are selected for their passion and drive for commercialization of life science technology. They must have demonstrated a consistent track record of entrepreneurial behaviors, strong work ethic, and academic excellence. Students in the life sciences, engineering and business with terminal degree plans at both the masters and doctoral levels are eligible to apply for the graduate fellows program. IAMI Fellows will be matched by their area of interest with projects and faculty with strong translational potential.
