Prevailing Wage Request

Federal law requires the Medical Center to pay the "prevailing wage" to professionals who are eligible to work under the H1-B Visa Program as citizens of other countries who are not permanent residents of the United States. Human Resources prepares prevailing wage requests for review and decision by the Kansas State Workforce Agency authorized to make these determinations.

Hiring managers initiate prevailing wage requests by contacting John Matzeder in Human Resources by email at John Matzeder or phone at 85121. Human Resources prepares the required form based upon information contained in each position description, and communicates the request to Topeka. Upon obtaining the "prevailing wage", Human Resources informs hiring managers and International Programs. This process applies only to those individuals who are being hired, promoted or extended under the H1-B Visa Program.

Hiring managers should defer making job offers until they are notified of the prevailing wage determination then decide whether or not to hire, promote or extend employment and initiate the H1-B application process. If hiring managers choose to proceed, they should contact International Programs at 81480 for assistance in applying for the H1-B Visa.
