Designated Holidays for CY2008

Discretionary Holiday | Paid Holidays | K.A.R. 1-9-2

Governor Sebelius has designated the following holidays for the state service in calendar year 2008.

New Year's Day Tuesday, January 1, 2008
Martin Luther King Day Monday, January 21, 2008
Memorial Day Monday, May 26, 2008
Independence Day Friday, July 4, 2008
Labor Day Monday, September 1, 2008
*Veteran's Day Tuesday, November 11, 2008 *Classified employees only
Thanksgiving Day Thursday, November 27, 2008
(2 days) Friday, November 28, 2008
Christmas Day Thursday, December 25, 2008

It is the intention of the holiday regulation that all full-time employees in regular positions who are entitled to holidays receive credit for a holiday, and that partial credit be given to part-time employees who are entitled to holidays in accordance with K.A.R. 1-9-2 and Division of Personnel Services Bulletin 98-01. Also, because Veteran's Day falls during a time when classes are in session, classes should be held as scheduled. Regents Unclassified employees will be expected to fulfill their responsibilities for that day. Department Heads should use discretion in determining staffing levels and how unclassified staff should fulfill their duties for that day.

In addition to the holidays discussed above, the governor is again authorizing a discretionary day for state employees, which is for observance of a holiday or other special day during calendar year 2008. If you have questions, please contact Human Resources at 913-588-5080.

When a legal holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday is the officially observed holiday. If a legal holiday falls on a Saturday, the preceding Friday is the officially observed holiday (K.A.R.1-9-2).
