In answer to KPERS’ long-term funding shortfall, the Legislature has made changes to future benefits and contributions, affecting both KPERS members and employers. (Note this does not affect TIAA CREF or ING plans.) Changes were necessary to make KPERS more sustainable and to pay promised benefits long-term. Things to keep in mind: a) Any changes are for future service only. The service you've already earned will stay as is. b) Changes are at least 2 years down the road. c) More things need to happen for the changes to actually take effect. Remaining Steps and Change Overview - What's Next? We are beginning to plan the best way to implement the Legislature's changes should everything become effective. Our goal is to keep you informed along the way. Question? Toll-free 1-888-275-5737, Topeka 296-6166 or email kpers@kpers.org.
