State of Kansas Political Activities Memo: Please review the Memo from
Governor Sebelius regarding
Political Activities for State Employees.
Veterans Preference:
The State of Kansas recognizes the enormous contributions of men and women
who have served their country in uniform. As a veteran of the Armed Services,
you may be entitled to preference when seeking employment with state government.
Alternative Work Schedules:
In response to the rising cost of gas and
increasing detrimental affects to the environment, the University of Kansas
Medical Center has developed policies supporting the concept and use of various
scheduling arrangements, telecommuting and/or carpooling.
Classified Annual Leave Enhancement: The Kansas Board of Regents recently approved
an enhancement to the vacation leave policy for
classified employees.
Beginning with FY09, all eligible classified staff will be permitted to accumulate
up to 304 hours of annual leave. Employees with 10 or more years of service will
also accumulate vacation leave faster than under the old system.Payout of unused
vacation leave will be up to 176 hours upon termination of employment and up to
240 hours if retiring from state service.Employees will not be permitted to accrue
more than 304 hours of leave, therefore there will no longer be any option to
convert "excess" leave to sick leave. Please see the link for more details on the accrual tables.
Pay plan information for Classified Staff: Beginning in FY09, the
State of Kansas is beginning a multi-year plan to improve classified
salaries. Although not all classified titles are scheduled for additional
salary hikes in FY09, approximately 2/3 of
KUMC classified staff will
receive a supplemental "market adjustment" in addition to the 2.5% general
increase. In most cases the supplemental "market adjustment" will be
approximately 5%. More information about the statewide pay plan is available by
visiting the
State of Kansas New Pay Plans.
