Louise Ann Wheeler, School of Law Professor, was an impressive educator who did much to champion women’s rights and their role in law.
Ms. Wheeler was innovative and pioneering in her course content. She taught a course on Law and Education which she completely devised herself. She compiled two teaching manuals for the School of Law clinical program, which she continually updated, one on general office practice and the other on misdemeanor cases. She also wrote and edited articles for the Stanford Law Review.
Ms. Wheeler was a key player in developing a Continuing Education series on Women and the Law. This extremely successful program, which she also gave two lectures for, was first offered in Kansas City and Lawrence during the Spring of 1973. In February of 1973, Ms. Wheeler was asked to testify in front of the State of Kansas legislative committee considering a bill to deratify the Equal Rights Amendment.
