Dr. M. Ann Eversole is said by Danny Kaiser, then Assistant Dean of Student Life, to “ . . . fight for the rights, empowerment and opportunities of all students, especially women, and all other groups who have been victimized by discrimination. At the same time, she helps students understand that they bear the responsibility for their actions and the impact of those actions on others.” She is a quiet leader, who is respected for her devotion, wisdom, professionalism and calming guidance.
David Hardy, former Acting Director of the Organizations and Activities Center, characterized Dr. Eversole with a reference to ancient Greece where “‘diplomats’ were handed ‘diplomas.’ These folded pieces of paper were given to people who had special talents in crossing cultures and understanding the issues within cultures.” She has been an inseparable part of this for over thirty years.
Her priority has always been the students. Stephanie Quincy, a past leader in student government, could “scarcely remember any controversial issue or important decision upon which [they] did not consult [her].” Ms. Quincy went on to say, “She was one of the few administrators whose opinions and advice [they] sought and weighed heavily.”
Dr. Eversole is and has been on the board of many highly visible and important campus committees such as the Executive Vice Chancellor’s Gay and Lesbian Concerns Study, the Office of Minority Affairs Advisory Board, and the Celebrations on Campus and Child Care Task Forces. Linda Mullens, Assistant Vice Chancellor, when commenting on the difficult positions held by this honoree, said, “All the factors of a student’s involvement on campus--maturity or lack thereof; different political attitudes; social issues; cultural and ethnic issues; personal integrity; leadership skills . . . are dealt with at some level by Dr. Eversole who can be depended upon to deliver a thoughtful, concrete resolution.” Dr. Eversole is truly a worthy recipient of the Women’s Hall of Fame award; she is the embodiment of an exceptional leader and a truly outstanding woman.
