This recipient was nominated by several of her students, illustrating the impact she has had in the KU community. Diana Carlin says of our next recipient, “It was obvious...that she was truly an innovator and leader in the area of intercultural communication.” Dr. Saule K. Abdygapparova, Associate Professor in the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics writes, “She is deserving because of her great scientific achievements and as an outstanding representative of the U.S. who helps people from other countries to know, understand and feel American culture much better."
Nobleza Asuncion-Lande has devoted her career to communication studies, specifically in the area of intercultural communication. She has published over 40 articles on a variety of topics dealing with communication and has presented at over 60 conferences. Her achievements in the field of communication are truly astounding. In addition to the many other accomplishments of Dr. Asuncion-Lande, she also co-founded the International and Intercultural Division of the National Communication Association and founded the Society for Intercultural Education, Training, and Research. JeeHae Lim, G.T.A., Communication Studies writes, “I strongly believe Dr. Asuncion-Lande...distributes her knowledge across the nation and around the globe, and develops the intercultural communication program...deserv[ing] the distinction of this honor.” Dr. Asuncion-Lande truly deserves this honor. Catherine Sebajwe-Reeves, student, writes, “Despite all her accomplishments, her academic appointments, special awards, and guest lectures, Dr. Asuncion-Lande has not lost touch of the importance of human intimacy and value. I can honestly say that she is a woman with a sincere heart who is always ready to put other people’s needs before her own.” Dr. Asuncion-Lande is known for the time she takes with students and her willingness to serve as a guide and a mentor. The Commission on the Status of Women is proud to induct Nobleza Asuncion-Lande in the University of Kansas Women's Hall of Fame.
