Drug
Information Residency Program Description
The University of Kansas Medical
Center offers a one year residency in Drug Information Practice.
Pharmacists completing this residency will be competent practitioners of
drug information in multiple health care environments. They will be
equipped to meet the challenges of current and future pharmacy practice
including promotion of optimal drug therapy and education of other
health care professionals, patients, and the community on drug related
topics. The learning objectives parallel those developed by the ASHP on
Drug Information Practice.
The residency begins on
July 1 of each year. The resident's time and responsibilities are spent
at the Drug Information Center in the Department of Pharmacy at the
University of Kansas Medical Center. The resident will also be trained
at the Mid-America Poison Center and will be required to complete a
residency project with subsequent publication.
Residency Program Experiences:
Areas of experience will include but are
not limited to:

Provision of drug information
services in both health care practice and industry settings.

Participation in adverse drug
reaction reporting (patient care settings and industry).

Preparation and publication of
pharmacy newsletters.

Participation in the administrative
aspects of maintaining a drug information service in an academic and
industry setting.

Participation in Pharmacy and
Therapeutics Committee and formulary maintenance activities.

Teaching and precepting pharmacy and
Pharm.D. students.
-
Experience in pharmaceutical
publishing industry (e.g., Facts & Comparisons, Technomic Inc,
Advanced Management Response Co).

Drug Information Web site
development.
-
Provision of contracted drug
information services.

Participation in publication
endeavors as Assistant Editors for Clin-Alert
(an international adverse drug reaction reporting
publication)

Resident reviewer for Hospital
Pharmacy.
Application Process
The qualified applicant will possess a
Doctor of Pharmacy or Masters of Science Degree. Previous residency
experience is required. The resident will be under the direct
supervision of Joyce A. Generali, M.S., R.Ph. FASHP, Director,
University of Kansas Drug Information Center.
Stipend: $35,000 annually
