Jeffrey M. Holzbeierlein, MD
Assistant Professor Urology

Research Description

Dr. Jeffrey Holzbeierlein is an assistant professor of Urology at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He was raised in Edmond, Oklahoma and received his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma. He joined the faculty after completing his internship and residency at Vanderbilt University and a fellowship in Urologic Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. 

Dr. Holzbeierlein is a member of the Society of Urologic Oncology and serves on its Executive Board.  He is a candidate member of the South Central Section of the American Urological  Association as is a Fellow of  the American College of Surgeons. He is a Diplomate of the Board of Urology. He is also a member of the Young Urologists committee for the American Urological Association and the past Chair of the Young Urologic Oncologists Section of the Society of Urologic Oncology. He is a reviewer for the Journal of Urology, Cancer, Urology, Nature Clinical Reviews, Practical Reviews in Urology, and Urologic Oncology.  Dr. Holzbeierlein also serves on the Editorial Board for the American Journal of Urology Review.

 

Dr. Holzbeierlein serves on numerous hospital committees and is the Chair of the Faculty Council.  His philanthropic interests include the Hope Lodge which houses patients and families of patients with cancer where he volunteers. 

 

His research interests are in urologic oncology and he has recently received a Department of Defense grant and is a co-investigator for an R01 grant for his work on drug development in prostate cancer.  In the past year, Dr. Holzbeierlein has had 5 published articles in peer-reviewed journals and 3 chapters in textbooks dealing with urologic oncology. He has presented his research and clinical experiences at a variety of local, regional, and national meetings. 

 

In addition, he recently completed the Boston Marathon for the first time in April of 2006 after qualifying in the Oklahoma City Marathon in April of 2005.
