Mission

Fertility, infertility, and diseases of the reproductive system are important concerns for humankind. These are concerns that impact each of our lives and our future. Knowledge of every detail of the reproductive process is essential in order to ensure our survival. This knowledge of reproduction is gained through basic and clinical research encompassing a continuum of scientific pursuits from the study of individual molecules to the analysis of complex neural networks controlling behavior. The context of the discoveries associated with these scientific pursuits is their application to the resolution of medical problems in reproduction. Our Center for Reproductive Sciences at the University of Kansas Medical Center contains more than 20 internationally recognized scientists and scholars investigating important topics related to fertility and infertility. The formal establishment of the Center was preceded by a long and distinguished history of scientific interaction, collaboration, and training in the field of reproductive sciences. These pioneering efforts were guided by Professor Gilbert S. Greenwald who joined the University of Kansas Medical Center in 1961. The Center's research efforts are supported in part by a Center grant from the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, NASA, private grants and several of the institutes within the NIH.

The mission of our Center is to promote research in reproductive sciences.

Our goals are:

  • To provide an atmosphere that promotes collegiality and encourages collaborative research.
  • Promote interactions between scientists and clinicians.
  • Form research groups focused on reproductive problems.
  • Provide the highest possible level of graduate and postgraduate training.
  • To assist and educate our community in better understanding issues related to fertility, infertility, and cancer of the reproductive system.
  • Disseminate educational information on pertinent issues relevant to fertility, infertility, and cancer of the reproductive system.
  • Establish effective working relationships with various local businesses, industry, foundations and civic groups.
