Policy on Use of Research Resources

The Landon Center on Aging (LCOA) maintains a variety of research resources, including space, engineering support, equipment, personnel, and access to participant populations.  All decisions regarding the allocation of resources are made collaboratively by the Director of the HPL and the Director of Research in the Landon Center on Aging.

Requests to use LCOA must be made in writing, and should detail the resources needed, time line, aging-relevance of the project, and long-term goals for the project.

Priorities for Research Resource Use

Priorities for use of space, equipment, and personnel will be established based on the following factors:

  • Funding or potential for funding of proposed project

  • Relevance to aging of proposed project

  • Availability of resources given current commitments to other projects

  • Extent of demand for resource for proposed project

  • Principal investigator status as Research Faculty or as an Associate in the Landon Center on Aging

  • Considerations related to equitable distribution of resources

Policy for providing support for unfunded studies

The Research Program at the Landon Center on Aging will make available research resources to unfunded pilot projects, with the following restrictions:

  • Pilot project is carried out in support of subsequent proposal for funding

  • Research resources are available given current commitments to other projects

  • Pilot projects are limited in scope to meet specific needs for pilot data

  • Considerations related to equitable distribution of resources

Research Resource Contracts

Once a decision has been made to allocate resources, a written agreement will be executed that specifies resources allocated, time-line, and any special considerations.  At the completion of the project, the investigator will be asked to submit a brief progress report so that the LCOA can track the return on its investment of resources.
