This custom device is equipped with two ATI nano-transducers capable of measuring six components of force and torque, as well as a Seika accelerometer. The transducers are used to measure the grip and lift forces as well as torques associated with lifting the object with the thumb and index finger. The accelerometer tracks the vertical acceleration of the object. The base of the object is a hollow box that accepts three visually identical inserts of varying mass, which can be changed quickly during testing. Subjects are instructed to lift the object from rest and place it back down onto a specially made switch plate that provides liftoff and contact information.
