Landon Fitness Center

The fitness programs at the Landon Center are open to those over 55.  We have a wide variety of options including Exercise Classes, Shannon's Classes, Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, and Meditation.   The only requirement is a consent form the potential participant's physician.

Exercise can help maintain our independence and mobility by strengthening muscles and bones.  Our classes are designed with the older adult in mind. 

The Landon Center’s fitness room is located at 3599 Rainbow Boulevard, Kansas City, Ks 66160. 

FITNESS CENTER EXERCISE CLASSES

The Fitness Center Classes are one hour long and consist of strength training, flexibility, balance, and cardiovascular training.

Class includes:

  • Warm up
  • Light hand weights
  • Therabands
  • Exercise balls
  • Treadmills
  • Stationary recumbent bikes
  • Cool down

SHANNON'S Classes

Shannon Basham offers two classes to anyone 55+. To register or for more information call Shannon at (913) 588-0716.

  • Stretch & Balance
    Tuesdays - 12:15 to 1:00 pm

    Stretch & Balance is a 45 minute class designed to increase flexibility and balance. Many stretches are performed seated in a chair and standing.

    Every Friday - 11:00 to 11:30 am

    Joseph Pilates core muscle toning system uses routines that are done both lying down and seated on the floor. Pilates slims and trims while strengthening both body and mind.

Meditation
Every Wednesday - 9:00 am to 9:30 am
Instructor: Shannon Basham

Release stress through guided breath work that clears the body/mind/spirit of discord. As you are guided into a state of deep relaxation, your natural state of ease rises gently to the surface. Come prepared to breath deeply and relax!

Yoga
Every Wednesday - 9:30 to 10:00 am
Instructor: Alan Lippincott

Kundalini Yoga is known as "The Yoga of Awareness." Seated in a chair, we will bend, breathe and relax our bodies for mental focus and relaxation.

Tai Chi
Every Wednesday - 10:15 am to 11:00 am
Instructor: Bill Douglas

Tai Chi engages both the mind and body to help mentally, physically, and emotionally disconnect from daily stress loads. One thing that makes this such a powerfully effective approach is the physical benefits of Tai Chi equal moderate impact aerobic exercise, yet Tai Chi is gentler enough for anyone, even those with arthritis.

Zumba
Fridays - 10:00 to 10:45 am
Instructor: Jan Peck

Zumba is a high energy class designed to raise the heart rate and get the body moving! Simple dance and aerobic steps put to your favorite songs. This class will get your heart rate elevated and body temperature on the rise.
