Joan M. McDowd, Ph.D., is Associate Director for Research in the Landon Center on Aging and Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy Education. She received her doctoral degree in Psychology from the University of Toronto, with a specialization in cognition and aging.
Primary Research Interests: Dr. McDowd has interests in memory, attention, and aging. She is recognized nationally for her work in attention in typical aging, and is currently expanding that work to include age-related neurological deficits such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and Alzheimer’s disease.
Publications: Dr. McDowd publishes her work in the Journal of Gerontology: Psychological Sciences, Psychology and Aging, Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, and Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory, and Cognition. She is also the author of several book chapters related to cognition in aging.
