Mrs. Wiggins is a post-masters prepared nurse practitioner, dually board certified in the care of Adults and in Geriatrics. She serves as clinical faculty for KU School of Medicine in the Department of Family Medicine, Division of Geriatric Medicine and is a one of the core didactic faculty for the Kansas Reynolds Program in Aging at the Landon Center on Aging. She is also Associate Director for Clinical Excellence at the Landon Center on Aging Geriatric Education Center. Mrs. Wiggins has maintained an active NP practice in the care of older adults at KU since 1996 and has over 30 years of professional experience. She is passionate about quality and compassion in the care of older adults. She has been an invited speaker for over 70 professional education programs as well as a popular speaker for local Shepherd’s Centers. Other contributions include several professional and lay publications, including academic web modules.
Prior to joining the Center on Aging and the School of Medicine, Mrs. Wiggins served as a full-time faculty member at the University of Kansas School of Nursing for 15 years, teaching clinical and didactic undergraduate critical care 1990-1995. She received an adjunct graduate faculty appointment in 1996 and taught clinical and didactic courses for NP students in the masters program 1996-2005. She was a recipient of undergraduate and graduate excellence in teaching awards and nominations during her 15-year tenure of service at the School of Nursing. She has also provided geriatric care management consultation as well as legal consultation on a case basis. Prior to obtaining advanced degrees, she worked for many years in critical care, IV Therapy, and other arenas.
Mrs. Wiggins received a Masters of Science degree with a nursing major and gerontology focus as a clinical nurse specialist with a healthcare administration cognate from the University of Oklahoma in 1986. She completed Post-masters nurse practitioner education in 1995.
