Guide for Preceptors:

NOTE: the information posted just below is identical to that in the printable version of the preceptor guide above.

This activity involves the Seymour 900® model from VATA Inc. (www.vatainc.com) which provides a nice lifesize model of the sacro-anal area.  It provides examples of each of the pressure ulcer stages, candidiasis, a herpetic lesion, a sutured incision, an eschar and an anal fistula.  We found Seymour to be helpful as a good visual for the learners to appreciate skin wounds.

If you choose to use Seymour 900® as a model, we recommend the following activity:

  • Create a label sheet with Seymour 900® skin lesions;
  • Laminate the sheet, cut each skin lesion card and place a Velcro® attachment behind each card;
  • On Seymour®, attach a Velcro® attachment above each skin finding;
  • Allow the learners to match the skin finding card to the model;
  • After completion, discuss each one and the features of each skin finding.
