This year's Senior Celebration was held on May 10, 2008, on a chilly windy day.
The festivities began with a free pancake breakfast, supplied by Chris Cakes. Everyone enjoyed some pancakes, sausage, juice, and coffee under the big tent in the front parking lot at the Landon Center on Aging.
Then inside participants were greeted with the music from Roy G. Watson and there were informational booths for the older adult on the first floor. On the second floor were free health screenings and free chair massages.
In room 145 the winning photos from the 2008 Images of Aging photo contest were displayed along with popcorn, refreshment, and a slide show with music of the non winning photos from the contest.
The presentations began at 9:30 a.m. with the announcement of the Images of Aging photo contest winners. Nola Ochs was presented with the first Outstanding Older Adult of the Year Award. Nola was recognized for her efforts at obtaining her bachelor's degree at the age of 95. She is the Guinness World Book holder for oldest college graduate.
The keynote speaker was Bill Grigsby, known as the voice of the Kansas City Chiefs, and his famous phrase, "It's a beeeeaaaauuuuutiful day". He entertained the audience with a colorful presentation.
The day ended dancing to the music of the Don Nelson Band.
