Medical Surveillance Examinations

If your employees are subjected to specific types of hazards in their work environments, medical surveillance testing is provided to ensure the protection of their health. Employees that may require medical surveillance include workers exposed to asbestos, lead, noise, lasers, hazardous waste, or other chemical, physical, and biological hazards. The tests are conducted with state of the art equipment and highly trained medical staff. All test results are made available to each employee and maintained within their health record in the department.

The medical staff is available for consultation regarding the appropriate testing, education, and counseling required and/or recommended for your specific work environment.

Immunizations

An important way to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases is through immunizations. Up-to-date records and notifications can be provided by the department for your employees. Consultative services are available to assist in providing the best program for your employees in regard to their work environment, including overseas travel.

Exposure at Work

During the course of work, employees may unknowingly be exposed to a contagious disease or toxic substance. Exposure to diseases can occur through a variety of routes. Exposure to toxic chemicals also occurs in a number of ways but most frequently through the improper handling or labeling of hazardous materials.

Depending upon the type of exposure that has occurred, workers' compensation may be involved. The Clinic has extensive experience in the handling of all types of worker's compensation claims and employs full-time occupational and environmental medicine physicians, occupational health nurses and a workers' compensation case manager to ensure appropriate care, treatment, and cost-containment.

Health Education for Employees

To help meet your health education needs, the Occupational Health Clinic can provide you with up-to-date information, promotional programs, and teaching materials on a variety of health issues. A number of community-based health and educational resources are also available to you through the department.

The Clinic's medical staff consists of physicians trained in occupational medicine, nurse practitioners, occupational health nurses, and a nurse case manager. All personnel are dedicated to providing up-to-date occupational and environmental health care based upon federal and state laws and current medical information.
