Dr. Sieck’s research interests include neuromotor control, contractile protein expression and muscle fiber mechanics, intracellular calcium regulation and excitation-contraction coupling. His studies employ a number of physiological and disease models related to neuromuscular remodeling, postnatal development, aging, respiratory control, and the hormonal environment. Dr. Sieck has received various honors and awards including the Mayo Distinguished Investigator and Research Educator awards, and is currently President-Elect of the American Physiological Society. He served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Applied Physiology from 1999-2005 and is a member of editorial and advisory boards for a number of physiology publications. He has published over 200 original articles, reviews, book chapters and editorials.
