Help Wanted Advertising
Policy for placing a help wanted ad:
Development, coordination and placement of all classified advertising (regardless of
source of funding) shall be the responsibility of the Human Resource offices on both
campuses. Hiring managers normally working with Kansas City who wish to request
placement of classified ads for vacant positions may do so by contacting the Employment office (8-5086) for assistance. Managers who normally work
with Wichita HR should contact that office for assistance.
- Advertisement is defined as any announcement or posting of a vacancy at KUMC in print,
broadcast or on-line media.
- Vacancy is defined, as any full or part-time, regular or temporary position not
currently occupied.
- Print media is defined as including newspapers, periodicals, and professional journals.
- Broadcast media is defined as including television, radio, cable and satellite
stations or networks.
- "On-Line" media is defined as including World Wide Web resources, proprietary
e-mail and on-line services or other electronic forum that may accept advertising.
Exemptions to this policy may be requested on a case-by-case basis. Requests for
exemption should be sent to the Vice Chancellor for Administration. Exemptions shall
be made only with the written approval of the Vice Chancellor for Administration or
designee.
Hiring managers wishing to place advertisements shall contact KC or Wichita campus
HR staff. KUMC will guarantee payment of only those ads placed in compliance with
this policy.
Appropriate Human Resources staff will assist managers by drafting, placing of ads.
HR staff will also ensure hiring managers of EEO/AA compliance of any ad placed in
conformance with this policy.
Kansas City hiring departments requesting placement of an ad assume responsibility
only for the actual cost of the ad. Payment for ads will be made via interdepartmental
charge.
Ads for departments in Wichita are funded by centralized ad budget in HR on that campus.
Hiring managers are encouraged to meet with campus Human Resource staff to discuss
plans to fill vacant positions that incorporate advertising or other recruitment
strategies.
